Singapore Ambassador Highlights Cambodia's Growth Through 'Skyscrapers'

PHNOM PENH: In a recent event focused on land management and urban planning in Phnom Penh, Ms. Teo Lay Cheng, the Ambassador of Singapore to Cambodia, commended the remarkable progress observed in Cambodia under the stewardship of the Royal Government, particularly evident in the proliferation of skyscrapers and urban infrastructure across the nation.

Ms. Teo Lay Cheng underscored the importance of strategic urban development planning in harnessing Cambodia's growth trajectory amidst the technological revolution. She highlighted the collaborative efforts between the Singaporean government, private sector, and academic institutions in formulating urban development strategies tailored to address pressing issues such as transportation efficiency, housing accessibility, green spaces, and economic opportunities.

The Ambassador noted a significant surge in urbanization and construction activities in recent years, evidenced by the construction of roads, boulevards, hotels, condominiums, shopping malls, and residential complexes. In light of this rapid urban expansion, Ms. Teo emphasized the critical role of effective urban planning in managing construction growth while preserving cultural heritage and delivering essential services to the burgeoning population.

Tek Reth Samrech, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Land Management, Urban Planning, and Construction, echoed the sentiment, acknowledging Cambodia's increasing skyline with the emergence of numerous high-rise buildings. Recognizing the need for technical expertise, Samrech emphasized Cambodia's request for policy support and technical assistance from Singapore to facilitate the development of affordable housing and sustainable urban infrastructure.

Samrech emphasized the importance of multi-stakeholder collaboration, emphasizing the involvement of both the private and public sectors, alongside community engagement, in driving successful urban development initiatives. In this regard, Cambodia appealed to the Singaporean Embassy for continued support, seeking expertise and technical assistance to enhance urban development efforts in the country's promising future.
